Samsung launches Gear S2 and Gear VR in India

Korean technology giant Samsung has announced the launch of two new wearables in India - the Gear S2 smartwatch and Gear VR virtual reality headset.
The Gear S2 smartwatch was earlier showcased during the IFA Berlin trade show in September last year. It has a 1.2-inch circular AMOLED display with 360x360 pixel resolution with 302 ppi. It is powered by 1-GHz dual core processor, paired with 512 MB RAM and is based on Tizen-based wearable platform.
It has 4 GB of internal storage and supports multiple audio formats. Samsung has added a 250-mAh battery, which the company says lasts for 2-3days. The watch is compatible with Android smartphones and offers features such as S Health, Nike+ Running, S Voice, voice memo, navigation, and news, and takes care of the communication part too. This is IP68 certified, which makes it dust and water resistant.
The Gear S2 is available in two variants - Gear S2 is priced at Rs 24,300 and the Gear S2 Classic at Rs 25,800.
Along with the smartwatch, the company has also launched the Gear VR headset. The virtual reality headset priced at Rs 8,200 works with select Galaxy smartphones including Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, Note 5 and Note 5 dual SIM. It weights 318 gm and has 96-degree field of view. The phone slides in the VR headset and it also has a touchpad for input.
Manu Sharma, Director, Marketing, IT and Mobile at Samsung India says, "The Gear VR presents a unique opportunity for consumers to get an immersive, interactive virtual reality experience."
